‘Only One Earth’: Prioritizing the environment

Our Chairman Mr. Surendra Patawari was invited to a special interactive session on the environment on March 7, 2022 at the Expo 2020 at Dubai. The discussion was held at the India Pavilion, in collaboration with the Bhamla Foundation. This high-profile deliberation attracted key change makers and influencers who have been working tireless towards protection of the environment and Mother Earth.

Titled ‘Only One Earth’, the session aimed at raising awareness and the need to safeguard the environment. This was in sync with the annual global theme laid out by the United Nations Environment Programme for the World Environment Day 2022.

The keynote address for this event was provided by Mr. Piyush Goyal, the Union Minister for Commerce and Industry in India. In addition to Mr. Patawari, the other eminent panelists included Mr. Shaan (musician and composer), Mrs. Amruta Devendra Fadnavis (social activist), Ms. Tadu Mamu (Consul for Press, Information, Culture & Labour at the Consulate General of India, Dubai), Mr. Lakshyraj Singh (Mewar of Udaipur), Mr. Suniel Shetty (actor and producer) and Mr. Asif Bhamla (Indian environmentalist).

Addressing the seminar, Mr. Patawari said, “Everyday we generate 2,000 miliion tonnes of plastic waste out of which we recycle only 10%. Fortunately, there is a silver lining in the form of carbon credits and plastic credits. After six years of our efforts, the world leaders have agreed to carbon credits and rules connected to cross-border trading. As a result, recyclers in India are now receiving some much-needed funding.”

As part of his keynote address, Mr. Goyal highlighted the fact that India is the fastest-growing green economy in the world and the only G20 country on track to achieve the goals as part of the Paris Agreement. He also advocated the climate warriors to adopt “climatepreunership” to ensure that new inventions and emerging technologies adhere to the spirit of climatic justice.

Amruta Devendra Fadnavis said, "The India Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi has been leading the initiatives on climate change and promotion of biofuel. We fully support his efforts towards sustainable development."
